Classroom Calendar

Hello and Welcome to Miss Gangloff’s Third Grade classroom. My classroom fosters an environment of warmth, respect, structure, Christianity, and learning.
The children are greeted each day with a big “Hello” from their teacher and in return they respond back with the same, starting us off with big smiles for the day.

We start our morning with Religion. We have the wonderful opportunity to prepare for their First Holy Communion in Third Grade. The children not only complete their weekly religion books but they also complete an eight week First Holy Eucharist book before they make their Communion. The children are very excited to prepare and participate in this special step as church members. The children also do two big projects, one about their favorite Pope and one about their favorite Saint which they love to research and share with the class.

Each week the children work on a particular target skill and master that skill. After working on five weeks of skills the children complete a Unit test of all the skills they have learned during those five weeks.

Next we do Math. The children continue to master their addition and subtraction skills in third grade. We also learn multiplication and division. The children learn rounding of numbers throughout the year with addition and subtraction. The children love to play Math Around the World with their math facts!

In Social Studies the children focus on communities. They do many fun classroom activities centering on communities and have discussions about our own community. They learn where people start communities, how communities grow and change and how people live and work together in a community.

In Science/Health the children learn about living and nonliving things, types of plants, types of animals, force and motion, work and machines, dental health and body systems. The children love to plant their own lima bean seed and see what happens to it. We look and see if we can find all the parts of the flower. The children love our class skeleton “George” who is a part of our class when learning about the body systems. We also have a Dental Hygienist come in each February to talk to the class about dental health as well.

As you can see our classroom is full of fun and exciting activities all year long. We do all of these activities with learning based on the New York State Standards, and following the morals and beliefs of a Catholic School. The children look forward to coming to school and learning in a fun, structured, environment.
